About

AnneHi, there! Thank you so much for visiting my blog!

My name is Anne.  I live in the flat, prairie, corn- and squirrel-filled part of Illinois with my husband, Matt.  I have many interests including making and eating and sharing good food, gardening, reading, finding creative ways to be resourceful, and being involved with my church and community.

“Thirty Seconds on High” comes from my childhood – we had an older model microwave and somehow I determined that the best setting for just about anything was to push the button for the light indicator to reach “High” and to set the time for 30 seconds. It became a running joke and wouldn’t you know, now microwaves come with a 30-Second button and the power level is automatically 10! So I was really onto something!

It is my hope to make a positive difference in your life by sharing my passions and experiences with you in a fun and helpful way. If 30 Seconds on High works for me, it just might work for you too!

As soon as I saw the name, I just started laughing……Mom and Dad STILL use that old microwave!!!!!

(I haven’t forgotten that shoe-leather-tough ‘grilled cheese sandwich’ I made in it for you once upon a time….thank God you survived that episode.)

Great idea on the blog. Looking forward to more. Too funny on those cookies, I am actually getting ready to make them in about 10 minutes, my first time ever doing so. Hope they turn out as good as yours.

  3. Thanks to both Big L and Big Al for your comments. I had forgotten about that “grilled cheese sandwich” – lesson learned: it might work sometimes, but toasting bread and then sticking a slice of cheese in the middle and microwaving it isn’t quite the same as making grilled cheese on the stove. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do 🙂

And, Big Al, hope your PB Blossom cookies were a hit – let us know!

    • Thanks, Joe. The base for the cookie is my favorite Peanut Butter Cookie recipe. Just leave off the chocolate and you’ve got good old-fashioned Peanut Butter Cookies. YUM. And maybe if you’re nice, Santa will bring you some 🙂
